The goal of the Education/Prevention Program is to provide children and adults with instruction on rape and child abuse awareness, self-defense, personal safety and prevention skills in order to decrease their vulnerability to assault and abuse. The program provides school-based ChildSAFE (Safety and Awareness for Everyone) programs, consisting of 2-3 day workshops, for students from preschool to high school level. Workshops are also provided to parents and teachers in order to instruct them on child abuse prevention and recognition. Community awareness programs are provided to the general public, with an emphasis on reaching those who may be more at risk to assault and abuse situations. Community based programs include agency in-services, self-defense workshops, and volunteer training/public awareness programs Approximately 12,000 children and adults receive education/prevention services each year. All program services are available in both English and Spanish, and are provided throughout northern Santa Barbara County, including the residents of the Lompoc Valley Vandenberg AFB, Santa Maria Valley, Guadalupe and Santa Ynez Valley.
